Response Times

Response times can be reasonably approximated using the drive time calculation from our nearest station. Response times vary based on time of day, traffic, weather and availability of personnel. The average response time in 2020 was 10 minutes. Note that some areas of the fire district are not accessible by road year-round particularly the Irwin, Gothic, Cement Creek, and Schofield areas.

Water Delivery

The District maintains two (2) 2,000 gallon water tenders and four (4) pumpers carrying a minimum of 750 gallons of water with a pumping capacity of 1,000 gallons per minute each. We have mutual aid agreements with neighboring jurisdictions for additional capacity if needed.

Hydrant Locations

Locations within the Town of Crested Butte, the Mt. Crested Butte Water and Sanitation District, the Skyland Metro District, the Crested Butte South Metro District, the Larkspur, Buckhorn Ranch, and Riverland subdivisions, are served by fire hydrants. Additionally, new construction located in unincorporated Gunnison County within the fire district may be required to provide sprinklered systems and/or on-site water supply for fighting.
